Eastern Market, Cuisine and Demetri Martin

Yesterday morning Stefanie and I went to Eastern Market. I was so distracted by the antique shops that I didn't even buy any produce. I found this cute Michigan postcard. The guy said it was from the 1940s.

Then I came across this little treasure. A school text book on hygiene from 1913. It's from the Philadelphia Public School system. I thumbed through a couple pages and knew I needed it for my coffee table. The diagrams and topics are priceless and its in pretty good condition. I naturally loved the chapter called "Emergencies." Come over and read it sometime.

We also got to talk to Karen Brown, owner of Savvy Chic. I am in love with what she did to the shabby industrial cement floor in her shop. It's painted to look exactly like hardwood floor and I honestly had to bend down and feel it to believe it. I think that would be awesome to do to my basement. I might have to go visit her again for some tips.

Friday night I went with Snoodie Foodies to Cuisine (in New Center) for our monthly Detroit restaurant adventure. Join us sometime! Angela (my future roomie) found this amazing place near her work. It was super fancy so we tried to be on our best behavior. Delicious! I highly recommend the Lobster Linguini. Check it out sometime.

Oh and I got to see Demetri Martin last night. Hilarious. We decided his jokes can rarely be successfully retold as he is all about the dead pan delivery. So go watch some of his stuff for yourself.

Laundry room art and the greatest couch

Once I clean up the laundry area a bit I really want to frame a bunch of these pictures to hang over the washer and dryer. Some of them I took myself, some of them I found online. I want to be the first person to hang art in their laundry room. : )

While we are on the subject.
Check out how to make this cute drying rack under the DIY page.

Oh... and this couch. Amber found this in Traverse City (awesome) but apparently it costs $5K (not awesome). It's adorable. We need to find a couch that can fit in a very strange corner of the living room. This is the closest we have seen.

13 Days

13 Days until the move. And I can't wait to get started!

It's hard to see in the picture but this room is shockingly dark for having so many windows. My goal will be to lighten it up a bit. Like this.I want to make those chartreuse curtains.

I also want to clean up the basement, which currently is the epitome of dark, musty, creepy old basement.

I like this picture. I could work there. The white really does brighten it up.

The first floor is this loooong, skinny space that goes back door, kitchen, dining room, living room, stairs to basement and upstairs and front entrance. It has a lot of exposed brick, a turret shaped corner, a million windows and a lot of potential. Someday it would be nice to break up the room a bit by creating 2-3 separate rooms set apart by large doorways. I love the house in the below pictures because you can always see into two or three different rooms at a time. And they have the wildest paint schemes.

See the DIY section for how to make this awesome headboard. I will post pictures of my future attempt at it.
