My best friend Lauren and I went to New York City last week. It was her first time. It was magical if not exhausting. Here's a peek.
We love museums and wanted an adventure that would keep us warm and cognitively engaged. The Guggenheimcame through on every level. The spiral, continually ascending, Frank Lloyd Wright design kept us interested during the much needed, free audio tour. At the "Chaos and Classicism" exhibit, we learned more about the progression of art between WWI and WWII then we ever thought we would need.
The upper west side. Just pretty cupcakes.
Architectural tourism. Old buildings with character and round corners. I am smitten.
I once read a blog post about this building that was turned into huge, perfectly round lofts. Then I went to see them.
The jungle popping out from under Manhattan.
One of the sets from "You've Got Mail," Cafe Lalo was the perfect mix of tourism and untouched loveliness. I bought a tee-shirt and an espresso.
I take pictures of place's bathrooms on a regular basis. Actually, this one became the background on my phone for a few days. I want this wall paper.
More scenes from "You've Got Mail."
"This is one of those things I will immortalize forever and never understand why I can't recreate it. I will try to make one and it will never satisfy after this."
-Lauren, referring to a well-timed mango smoothie.
Our office/studio is coming along nicely. The evil yellow paint is essentially gone. We keep finding little specks of it in the corners. :) The goal is to have it all done by the time Amber gets home. She is in Italy getting inspired. Beautiful things will be made in this room.
Our inspiration.

1/2 way done!
This harsh angle really bothered us. Such a geometric shape does not belong in a house build in the late 1800s. Solution. The most beautiful, girly fabric the world has ever produced. Thank you Haberman Fabric.
The fabric pools up on the floor exactly like I had imagined!
We are finally all moved in. Now we have a ton of painting and decorating to do.
Front We are the last on the right.
Back
North Cass Community Garden - Across the street
The living room is our last huge project so this is the only picture I have for now.
We have lots of really old radiators.
The first bedroom will be "Fervent Brass." Such a great name. It was between this and "Crisp Ginger Ale!"
Hint: this paint is absolutely, without a doubt a green under the Home Depot lights.
Sam getting to work.
Half way done.
Pretty pillows
Trim
Cute old doors.
Heaviest bed in the world. Favorite memory of moving so far... us getting this beast up the curved staircase. Hilarious. Worth it.
Imagine this teal patterned curtain over a strange and awkward nook/closet in the corner. Must track down this fabric or something similar first.
Done!
Angela's room. Adorable. Looks like a magazine.
Amber's room. AKA best before/after. The paint is called "Surfs up!" Cute giraffe on top of a great Ikea shelf. This is the room with the beautiful wood floor that was covered by nasty light pink carpet (see below).
Trivia: 4 of the 5 girls in the house have been to South Africa.... separately. Weird.
The before : (
The kitchen. We're keeping the avocado green walls!
Possibly one of my favorite parts of our place. The panty-coffee nook-calendar-chalkboard corner. We might try to find that chalk board paint to do that whole wall. That would be fun. The little cupboard has all of our mugs and a utensil drawer. Our kitchen cupboards have no drawer wide enough for a utensil organizer. Little quirks like that keep us creative at least.
