Fervent Brass: The Tour

We are finally all moved in.
Now we have a ton of painting and decorating to do.

Front
We are the last on the right.

Back

North Cass Community Garden - Across the street

The living room is our last huge project so this is the only picture I have for now.

We have lots of really old radiators.

The first bedroom will be "Fervent Brass." Such a great name.
It was between this and "Crisp Ginger Ale!"

Hint: this paint is absolutely, without a doubt a green under the Home Depot lights.

Sam getting to work.

Half way done.

Pretty pillows

Trim

Cute old doors.

Heaviest bed in the world.
Favorite memory of moving so far...
us getting this beast up the curved staircase.
Hilarious. Worth it.

Imagine this teal patterned curtain over a
strange and awkward nook/closet in the corner.

Must track down this fabric or something similar first.

Done!

Angela's room.
Adorable. Looks like a magazine.

Amber's room. AKA best before/after.
The paint is called "Surfs up!" Cute giraffe on top of a great Ikea shelf. This is the room with the beautiful wood floor that was covered by nasty light pink carpet (see below).

Trivia: 4 of the 5 girls in the house have been to South Africa.... separately. Weird.

The before : (

The kitchen.
We're keeping the avocado green walls!

Possibly one of my favorite parts of our place. The panty-coffee nook-calendar-chalkboard corner. We might try to find that chalk board paint to do that whole wall. That would be fun. The little cupboard has all of our mugs and a utensil drawer. Our kitchen cupboards have no drawer wide enough for a utensil organizer. Little quirks like that keep us creative at least.

little here, little there, mostly there but completely here

You should come check out the Maker Faire at The Henry Ford. 7/31-8/1. I'll be at the Handmade Detroit table. Come visit.

Read this article about the Handmade Detroit girls.

This is an interesting wedding shot my sister Courtney did.
It has grown on me really fast.

Here's a link to my other sister's (Lindsay) blog.

I want to eat this right now.

I am trying to make it to this conference in September. It's all about restoring under-resourced communities through being a good neighbor. Come with me?

Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins

and will raise up the age-old foundations;
you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls,

Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.

I just put in my first attempt at
planning a house show
for our new place.

I emailed Rosie Thomas!
Will keep you posted.

10/3/12 update: never heard back :(

House update! We can move in tomorrow afternoon. A couple of us will be hiking so it will be more like Monday/Tuesday. If you have big muscles or a truck and want to hang out with fun girls please help us move. You won't regret it!

I think I have settled on light gray for the first floor. My inspiration!

Eastern Market, Cuisine and Demetri Martin

Yesterday morning Stefanie and I went to Eastern Market. I was so distracted by the antique shops that I didn't even buy any produce. I found this cute Michigan postcard. The guy said it was from the 1940s.

Then I came across this little treasure. A school text book on hygiene from 1913. It's from the Philadelphia Public School system. I thumbed through a couple pages and knew I needed it for my coffee table. The diagrams and topics are priceless and its in pretty good condition. I naturally loved the chapter called "Emergencies." Come over and read it sometime.

We also got to talk to Karen Brown, owner of Savvy Chic. I am in love with what she did to the shabby industrial cement floor in her shop. It's painted to look exactly like hardwood floor and I honestly had to bend down and feel it to believe it. I think that would be awesome to do to my basement. I might have to go visit her again for some tips.

Friday night I went with Snoodie Foodies to Cuisine (in New Center) for our monthly Detroit restaurant adventure. Join us sometime! Angela (my future roomie) found this amazing place near her work. It was super fancy so we tried to be on our best behavior. Delicious! I highly recommend the Lobster Linguini. Check it out sometime.

Oh and I got to see Demetri Martin last night. Hilarious. We decided his jokes can rarely be successfully retold as he is all about the dead pan delivery. So go watch some of his stuff for yourself.

Gray paint, vintage dressers as TV stands, living in the movies

I love the light gray walls in this picture.

Instead of having an ugly "entertainment center" I want to fix up an old dresser. I think it would look cute plus there are drawers for hiding wires, DVDs and such.

Ever wanted to feel like you were living in a movie?
Check out this

Mudroom area

We won't exactly have a "mudroom" per se but we will have this area (pictured below).

I love the low bench/shelving design in these pictures which were found somewhere on ApartmentTherapy.com.

Also my favorite handmade item of the day.

Two completely unrelated topics that need discussing.

I am so excited about an upcoming hiking trip to Negwegon State Park.

Also a shout out to Steve Clark. A fun friend who apparently reads my blog. I spent some of my favorite formative Detroit years getting in trouble with Steve and other Golden Grizzlies. He is busy being an awesome goalkeeper in Norway. Let's just say the one of the funniest stories about Steve and Detroit involve him getting in a minor car accident in an ice storm because he was singing so loudly to Lisa Loeb's song Stay. Those were the good ol' days as far as I am concerned.
